The approach
Memoir covers default to a photograph of the author, which usually flattens the book into a document. Here the photograph is of the road instead — a horizon, a route, a curve of return, depending on how far into the book you are. The image is desaturated almost to sepia so the burgundy title is the only strong colour on the jacket, and the board carries a linen texture so the object reads as something kept rather than something bought.
