The approach
Historical fiction sells on period and register before it sells on plot, and both are set by the jacket. The image does the period; the typography does the register. A high-contrast serif and a ruled border place the book as literary rather than romance, which is the distinction a reader makes in about a second at a shop table. The title is stacked so the two words read as one shape, and the imprint sits above it in the position a reader expects on a jacketed hardback.
