The approach

The interior handles footnotes, running heads, a bibliography, a two-level index and 40 figures with numbered captions, all on a grid that keeps the notes on the page they belong to. The cover uses a printed frame — a plate mark — to signal a scholarly edition without resorting to a stock photograph of a city.
